England Under-16 Boys lost out 2-0 to hosts Spain in their opening match at the Four Nations Tournament in Santander on Monday afternoon.

England played well for much of the game, but were punished for not taking their chances when they were presented.

Spain broke the deadlock just before half time, scoring with a deflection off an England stick at a 31st minute penalty corner, and then doubled their lead on 58 minutes, this time from open play.

Head Coach Charlie Bannister said: “We played well for much of the game. However, the lads didn’t get the result they deserved, partially due to not taking their chances but, sadly, also due to a couple of big decisions that did not go their way.”

Their Four Nations Tournament campaign continues on Tuesday when they play the Netherlands in the first match of the day at 10am (9am BST).
