Back to Hockey tournament is a great success!

East Grinstead BTH Tournament 2015

The latest Back to Hockey campaign saw over 1,500 players take part in the first week alone. In addition to offering Back to Hockey sessions for new and returning players East Grinstead hosted a Back to Hockey tournament.

Teams from Horley, Sevenoaks and Sutton Valence travelled to East Grinstead to play in a 7-a-side round robin mixed tournament which involved around 45 players. It was a wider club affair with young umpires and club goalkeepers helping to make the event a great success.

Steve Remfry, one of the organisers told us more about the event “Our aim was to make the tournament as inclusive as possible for those players who have been playing in Back to Hockey sessions in recent weeks.

We wanted the emphasis of the day to be a fun and sociable one with a little bit of a competitive edge to the event. One of the reasons the tournament was such as success was because it catered for genders, all ages and abilities.”

Horley emerged as the winners having ended the competition unbeaten.  Only East Grinstead Falcons managed to snatch a point from the winners in a close 2 - 2 match which helped them to secure second place narrowly ahead of Sutton Valence who finished in third place on goal difference.

All players thoroughly enjoyed taking part and the tournament was of course topped off with post match teas and drinks to celebrate.

Steve told us about why the tournament was such a success and East Grinstead’s future plans:

“This tournament has taken Back to Hockey to a new level for us. One which we believe will go further in attracting people to the sport. We have established some great links with the clubs who visited and plan to arrange more friendlies in the coming months.”

All in all a great day out for everyone and East Grinstead Hockey Club have plans to host another tournament in the future!
