Taylor Full of Praise for his Young Guns

Beeston Coach Matt Taylor

Beeston coach, Matt Taylor believes his young players, Joshua Pavis and Elliot Hibell can go all the way to the top.

The Bees recorded their first win of the league campaign with a 3-0 victory against East Grinstead a week ago. The goals came from an 18-year-old and two 19-year-olds.

However, Taylor spoke very highly of both Pavis, 16, and Hibell, 18, when asked if anyone can have breakthrough seasons.

He said: “They stand out because of their game understanding. Junior players take time to get that, whereas Josh and Elliot already seem to know when they should and should not do certain things.

“Josh’s biggest asset is his gameplay understanding. At 16, he is years ahead of himself."

“Elliot’s asset is on the ball. He will be in a situation where you don’t back him because the numbers are stacked against him but he reads it, and his skill execution is unbelievably high,” he added.

Taylor also emphasises the need to give the youth as much as chance as possible in order for them to progress.

He explained: “Wherever, I have coached, I have always given youth an opportunity.

“People look at my squad and say it’s heavily linked with senior internationals but my squad for the Surbiton game, had a 16 year old boy in it.”

He added: “These boys are given a chance even when international players are available. I am very confident they will both go through to become senior international hockey players at some stage.”

It seems Beeston’s young guns have a very promising future.
