Help us to improve junior competitions

As part of a review of our competitions programme, England Hockey is seeking feedback from clubs, schools and competition organisers involved in junior competitions and leagues about the current offer for junior competitions in England.  We want to ensure that all young people participating in our sport have the opportunity to take part in competitive hockey.

Through this review and based on insight from stakeholders and participants, England Hockey is seeking feedback on a number of core underpinning principles and a proposed ‘model’ programme. Please see the supporting documentation below for further details. Your feedback will shape the future delivery of junior competitions for schools and clubs.

The underpinning objective of the review is to further increase participation in hockey at junior levels. Our current insight shows that entry levels into England Hockey’s competitions have not increased in the past five years whereas the number of young players in clubs has increased from 35,000 to 58,000 since 2011 (a 65% increase). This means that clubs have more junior players but do not necessarily have the opportunities for these players to take part in competitive hockey.

In schools competitions approximately 500 schools participate in one or more of our current competitions programme but over 10,000 schools play hockey and many participate in local Schools Games activity.

The survey will take around 10 minutes to complete and as a thank you for your time you will be automatically entered into a draw to win one of five pairs of tickets to the Champions Trophy, taking place at Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre, this June. The winner of the prizes will be contacted during the week commencing 14th March.

We’d really welcome your feedback. The latest date for submissions is Thursday 10 March.
