Bisham Abbey Pitch Relocation

In 2019, England and GB Hockey’s elite training venue at Bisham Abbey National Sports Centre was replaced using the carpet from the ‘Big Stadium Hockey’ FIH Pro League matches at the Twickenham Stoop (home of Harlequins Rugby). This carpet is the same specification as the surface used at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.

UK Sport and Sport England support the upgrading of the surface each Olympic cycle and therefore the current Bisham Abbey pitch will soon become available to be used at a club or community venue in England.

Clubs, or venues that are used by England Hockey member clubs, can now apply for the repurposed elements from the Bisham Abbey pitch(es).

The following will become available:

1. 1 full size Polytan Tokyo carpet used at Bisham Abbey since 2019

2. Warm up area (with D marked) c20x30m

3. Sundry strips for noise management – e.g. padding kickboards/backboards

Interested clubs must be able to guarantee the following:

 England Hockey:

• To be members of England Hockey
• To hold, or to shortly hold, England Hockey Clubmark
• Have a junior section for the 2025/26 season
• To be a charity (for one and two only) or organisation with charitable objectives

 Pitch projects (for one and two only):

• To be able to receive and install the pitch in August 2025
• To work with Polytan to install the pitch (to ensure works are satisfactory)
• To have all the necessary funds to cover the transportation, installation, all ongoing responsibilities and costs
• To have a watering system and suitable sub-base (for one only)
