Keynsham HC combine fundraiser with HockeyFest

Keynsham Club of the Month

The sun was shining as Keynsham Hockey Club came together for their annual charity day combining it alongside their HockeyFest event. The day takes place every year in memory of two members, James Clifford and Kim Baptiste, raising money for British Heart Foundation and Cancer Research UK.

Keynsham Hockey Club shared with us their day of activity;“There were 7 teams taking part in a 7 a-side round robin tournament plus 2 junior sides. After an afternoon of hockey, it came down to an Olympic style penalty shoot between the ‘Purple Warriors’ and ‘Gareth’s Golden Girls’. Ladies ‘keeper Amanda Haskins went in goal for both sides and unleashed her inner Maddie Hinch, pulling off a string of excellent saves as both teams ran at her goal. It then came down to a sudden death shoot out, club stalwart Will Harris stepped up only to see his shot saved by Haskins, then new Men’s 1st XI captain Danny Voisey coolly slotted his penalty in the bottom corner to give the win to the Golden Girls.”

Danny said after the event; “It was an incredibly competitive and fun tournament but the standard of team I had around me led by Gareth Brown really shone through and to win in such an epic way. I’m really honored to have been part of such a great event.”

The club raised a massive £656.00 from participation in the day, raffle, bbq and snack sales. The day couldn’t have happened without Kelly, Lisa and Amanda who volunteered their time and effort putting together the day and making it such a success.
