This week we welcome schools from up and down the country for the Investec Schools Championships for girls to Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre in the Olympic Park.

We welcome five regional winners in each age group who qualified directly for the finals along with the runners-up from the respective regions of last year’s winners. The other four regional runners-up met in two playoff games with the winners of those games making it through to Lee Valley. We thank those schools who have been involved in the play-off games for their assistance in organising these additional games. You can find the full schedule for each day here.

Only Repton Under 18s of last year’s winners return to Lee Valley to defend their title although Welllington, who won the U14 competition, line up in the Under 16 event.

The Under 14s kick off the tournament on Tuesday 28th February. The eight qualifiers play in two pools of four with the pool winners playing in the final. Newcomers Surbiton High and Norwich line up with Clifton and Wakefield in Pool A. Last year’s runners up St Georges face another new national finalist, Marlborough with the rest of Pool made up of Trent and Cheadle Hulme.

The U16 and U18 tournaments are played in the same format but with longer games and over two days on 1-2 March.

In the U16s Pool A Kings, Bruton come into the tournament six weeks after picking up the Super 6s title. They are joined by Trent, The Leys, making their first appearance here plus Wellington, who completes the pool. Pool B sees the 2016 runners up Repton joined by Grammar School at Leeds, Blundells, who were fourth last season. Beaconsfield High did well to qualify from the traditionally strong South rounds is the final team to make up the second pool.

U18 holders Repton line up in the same pool as the 2015 winners Stockport Grammar plus Dean Close. Framlingham, who beat last year’s runners up Cranleigh in the play-off round is the fourth team in Pool A. Pool B sees Trent complete a hat-trick of qualifiers, the only school to do so this season. They line up with The Perse, Ardingly and Millfield.

As well as the many young players who are representing their schools it is also pleasing to see a number of young umpires here at Lee Valley. We thank the senior officials here who will work alongside them as they develop their umpiring and officiating skills.

Tickets are now on sale for the event. Price will be slightly more if bought on the day.
