Your England Hockey Team Of The Week!

Team of the Week
As the MHL and IWHL got back underway we were inundated once again with scores of brilliant nominations from teams across the country. Picking just 11 was tough but here is your England Hockey Team of the Week. Thank you once again for all of your fantastic suggestions.

The stories behind those selected include an unbeatable kicking back, a tennis-like overhead smash and superb (if painful) commitment to the cause!

Remember to nominate the best performances from your club every weekend by tweeting @EnglandHockey or replying to our Team of the Week posts on Facebook.

TOTW Round 15

Name: Gee Collins
Club: Leicester HC
Nomination: Despite suffering from illness, Gee managed to pull herself off her sick bed and helped her team into the quarter-finals of the cup by saving several penalties in the shootout. We hope Gee got plenty of rest after the game!

Name: Ollie Willars
Club: Beeston HC
Nomination: The England and GB defender has been consistent figure in the Beeston defence this season and was a key figure as they kept another clean sheet at the weekend. The fact that the club have only conceded 17 in a league full of goals is remarkable.

Name: Fi Wadey
Club: Kingsbridge & Salcombe HC
Nomination: Yet again the Devon-based club find one of their players in the Team of the Week! This time it’s 1st XI captain Fi, who was rock solid in 2-0 win, with numerous great tackles and distribution throughout seeing her named ‘Player of the Match’.

Name: Thomas Sampson
Club: Sonning HC
Nomination: Thomas was described as an ‘inspiration’ by his nominator after scoring a hat-trick from defence on his first game back after spending nine months out injured. We couldn’t agree more!

Name: Kevin Ryan
Club: West Derby HC
Nomination: Kevin was the key man in a thrilling 6-5 for his team at the weekend, scoring the winner – and his second of the game – with an overhead smash that we hear Novak Djokovic would have been proud of.

Name: Em Bradshaw
Club: Northampton Saints HC
Nomination: Em could we have found herself in the goalkeeper position having spent the last 10 minutes of the game at kicking back after the regular ‘keeper was given a yellow card. Not only did she keep the score at 3-3, she saved numerous shots and even a flick! Perhaps a permanent change beckons?

Name: Ruth Gordon
Club: East Grinstead
Nomination: The IWHL returned at the weekend and, as a result, so did the battle to make the play-off spots. East Grinstead are one of many teams fighting to make the top four and their position was strengthened with a 3-1 win over Slough, Ruth scoring twice in the final 12 minutes to secure the points.

Name: Chloe Williams
Club: Ipswich Seven HC
Nomination: Not only was Chloe the ‘Player of the Match’ in a 6-1 win to move her team back to the top of the league, she showed superb commitment to the cause, ending the game covered in blood after throwing herself to the floor to score one of her four goals.

Name: James Ireland
Club: Leadenham HC
Nomination: Despite pulling his hamstring, James still managed to score four goals in 9-0 win to help his team stay top of the league. Make sure you get some ice on that James!

Name: Martyn Stickly
Club: Warwick HC
Nomination: Martyn was certainly his team’s most valuable player at the weekend as he scored all the goals in a commanding 6-1 win.

Name: Ali Standeven
Club: Lancaster HC
Nomination: It was the perfect weekend for Ali as she scored one and provided two classy assists for her team on Saturday before notching a hat-trick for the O35s the following day. Top effort!
