WORLD CHAMPIONS - Men's 070s Win Gold

eng 70s gold

England regained the World Cup in a hard fought match in front of patriotic supporters of both teams.
Australia took an early lead and were controlling the game in the first quarter. However England, in the second quarter, started creating chances and deservedly scored through a well taken Stephen Stowell deflection. A few minutes later however Australia took the lead again through a well worked short corner. The half time score was therefore England 1 - Australia 2.
The second half was an intense battle between 2 good sides. Australia had more possession but England were dangerous on the break. From one of these breaks Stowell scored his second goal from a follow up. All 10 England outfield players were tremendous in defence but special mention should be made of the England keeper, Bill Goodridge, who made some stunning saves in the last quarter.
So at the final whistle it was England 2 - Australia 2. The same situation as in Newcastle, Australia two years ago when Australia won the dreaded shuttles.
However it would be different this time. Goodridge in goal was inspired and gave a master class in how to defend the goal. The Australians failed to score and England scored through Yardley and Stowell.
England 70s are World Champions again. The team spirit was fantastic and the management team gave tremendous support throughout.
