England Under-16 Girls secured their second consecutive victory at the Six Nations Tournament in Ireland, beating the hosts 4-0 in Cork on Monday afternoon.

Beth Alexander scored a hat-trick and Caitlin Polley added the other as England continued their great form.

“We played some really nice flowing passing hockey which led to open play goals, said head coach John Bell. “The girls controlled possession of the ball through the game.

“We were much more patient in our approach today. Ireland defended short corners and their circle well. We had a bit of an error-strewn period at the start of the third quarter, but then we scored a counter-attack goal towards the end of the fourth quarter which settled the girls, and they scored another one very quickly.”

Beth Alexander got England off to a great start with a goal from a second minute penalty corner, but they would have to wait until the third quarter for their next goal, which again came from Alexander from open play in the 43rd minute.

She completed her hat-trick with a third goal one minute later, and the scoring was complete when Caitlin Polley fired home their fourth goal in the 51st minute.

England Under-16 Girls are next in action on Wednesday morning when they face Germany at 9am.
