Frustrating defeat for England U18 Boys

Eng v IRL U18 boys, July 21 2018

England U18 Boys 0 (0)
Ireland U18 Boys 1 (1)

An early goal from rivals Ireland proved decisive as England Under-18 Boys lost out in their final match at the EuroHockey Youth Championships in Santander, Spain, on Saturday.

Head coach Martin Jones said: “It was clearly a game of two halves, we allowed Ireland to dictate the first half and they scored.

“Unfortunately through a mixture of good defensive clearances from the line by Ireland and our failure to execute in the D saw the second half end nil-nil which meant that Ireland ran home the winners.”

Oliver Kidd scored from a penalty corner routine in the ninth minute for Ireland, and there were no further goals in a tense and edgy match.
