Super HockeyFest events this weekend!

Selby HC HWC2018
HockeyFest is where clubs across the country open their doors to thousands of new and current players, to showcase the fun social side of their hockey club.

This year we have 13 Super ‘HockeyFest’ events with two taking place this weekend, Plymouth club Plym Valley and Yorkshire side Selby hockey club will be opening their doors to the community to kick start the season ahead.

This year’s HockeyFest runs from 18th August – 9th September supported by Notts Sport, will be jam packed with fun and informal events with a big community feel. These can be from a fundraising bake off, taster sessions for beginners to evening socials at the clubhouse; there is an event to suit the whole family.

Selby HC HockeyFest will be starting at 11am full of fun hockey activities for the whole family followed by a spot of ‘pros-ockey’ from 2-3pm!

‘Hockey is a big part of my life and has been for the last 20 years, so I would love to share the passion I have for the sport with others. This is the first time of doing this type of event but if it’s a success we are hoping to make it a yearly event.’ Kelly Cauley shared, chairperson and ladies’ 1st team captain for Selby HC.

Plym Valley HockeyFest

At the other end of the country, Plym Valley HC will also be opening their doors to the local community for them to give hockey a go alongside their current club members. There will be mini games, skills station, walking hockey, hockey rounders for all ages to get involved with. There will be refreshments and a raffle to raise money for Melanoma UK too.

'We're super excited to be hosting our third HockeyFest this year, especially following all the excitement of the women's world cup being hosted in London! Our favourite things about the event are getting new people from our community into Hockey, but also being able to raise money for charities at the same time. This year alongside fun activities for all abilities, we will be raising money for Melanoma UK' said Olivia Ellard, HockeyFest Co-coordinator.

With the heightened exposure of England women winning gold in Rio in 2016 and this summer’s Vitality Hockey Women’s World Cup on home turf which saw over 120,000 spectators more people than ever want to give this exciting sport a go.
