TOTW 2018/19 Round 14

Goalkeeper

Name: Cheryl Scott
Club: Reading HC
Nomination: A stunning debut for Cheryl this weekend as she saved her team on numerous occasions. Her nomination also added: 'Did we mention she’s old... like over 50. Let’s hope she doesn’t kill me for saying that!'

Defence

Name: Andrew Preston
Club: Basingstoke HC
Nomination: After missing 16 league games, Andrew showed his quality on his return this week by playing for more than an hour, cleaning up any breaks and organising the team to secure a much-needed win.

Name: Peter Mepham
Club: Witham HC
Nomination: Peter - also known as 'Sciatico' - is a member of the Witham M4s 'Dad's Army' team and scored a great goal from a corner in a 7-4 defeat today. According to his nominator, 'there is photographic evidence of him and Queen Victoria enjoying Tiffin.'

Name: Cameron Down
Club: Sheffield HC
Nomination: Cameron certainly stood up to the plate in a local derby against Doncaster, producing an unbelievable block on the line at shoulder height to ensure his team emerged 2-1 winners.

Midfield

Name: Steph Thompson
Club: Crewe Vagrants HC
Nomination: A story so incredible it deserved its own dedicated piece, Steph returned to action this weekend having finished her treatment for Acute Myeloid Leukaemia. She says there's still a way to get yet but it's incredible to have Steph back playing hockey!

Name: Jas Molden
Club: Leek HC
Nomination: 14-year-old Jas made her Midlands Women's Div 1 debut at the weekend and took to it 'like a duck to water', putting in a brilliant performance and being named Player of the Match.

Name: Megan Batchelor
Club: Bowdon Hightown HC
Nomination: It was a superb weekend for Megan and Bowdon as they finished second in the EuroHockey Indoor Trophy, securing a silver medal and ensuring promotion for an English side to the top tier next season. Megan finished as her team's joint-top scorer alongside Sally Walton with four goals, including a crucial strike in a vital 5-2 win over Croatia's HAHK Mladost.

Forwards

Name: Daryll Luxford
Club: Crawley HC
Nomination: Daryll - apparently his team's most senior player - scored a crucial goal in a tense game that set his side on their way to victory. However he doesn't just play - Daryll also helps run training for the youngsters, is the Women's 1s manager, can often be found umpiring and is also a first-aider. A true club hero!

Name: Martin Oates
Club: Bloxwich HC
Nomination: Martin was the man of the moment for his team at the weekend, scoring four and assisting the same number in an 8-0 win. What makes this performance even better is that he is normally a defender!

Name: Ahmed Maiter
Club: Newcastle HC
Nomination: Ahmed's reading of the game, work rate and direct running at the defence was instrumental in securing a 3-2 win. He also showed some effective reverse hits - training certainly pays off!

Name: Karen Burgess
Club: Southend & Benfleet HC
Nomination: It's taken a little while but Karen scored her first hat-trick of the season at the weekend, including an 'unbelievable' drag flick into the top corner of the goal.
