England Hockey nominated three times at Sport Business Awards

England at the Vitality Hockey Women's World Cup

England Hockey are very pleased to have been nominated in three categories at the 2019 Sports Business Awards.

Following the Vitality Hockey Women's World Cup, we are in the running for:

• Best Sports Event of the Year
• Best Operations Team
• Best Match (or Game) Day Experience category

Winners will be announced at the end of May at a prestigious event at London's The Brewery.

The World Cup was also recently nominated for Event of the Year at the BT Sport Industry Awards.

The event in the summer of 2018 was attended by more than 120,000 people, making it the biggest standalone female sporting event that the UK has ever seen. Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre’s capacity was increased to more than 10,000, with all England games completely sold out.

Over sixteen days 320 athletes, 160 support staff, 26 officials, 120,000 spectators, 282 accredited media and 650 volunteers brought the event to life, including the bespoke Fan Central and also a Red Arrows flyover on the opening day of play.

The event delivered ground-breaking broadcast production by BT Sport and was watched across 98 global markets. Crucially, England Hockey’s complementary ‘Your World Cup’ grassroots campaign connected the event with over 1500 hockey events nationwide. The estimated positive economic impact was more than £8million.

Delivered in partnership with FIH, UK Sport, Lee Valley Regional Park Authority, Greater London Authority, London & Partners and the London Legacy Development Corporation, the World Cup was rated on average 9 out of 10 by supporters who attended.

Hockey continues to move forward in 2019, with Great Britain’s teams taking part in the first ever FIH Pro League, a brand new competition with 15 of the world’s best teams competing across the globe. Great Britain’s home games begin at Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre at the end of April, while the competition concludes with a hugely exciting double header at the Twickenham Stoop on Sunday June 23. The league is a fantastic new platform for the sport, as hockey grows apace on these shores.
