St. George's College claim 2019 Notts Sport Boys' School U14 Tier 1 title

St. George's College 2019 Notts Sport U14 T1 winners
St. George’s College overcame the heartache of losing last year’s Notts Sport Boys’ Schools Championships U14 final as they claimed the Tier 1 title in dramatic style.

They required a shootout to overcome Repton after the match finished 1-1 at full-time before the Surrey-based school prevailed 4-3 in a shootout at the Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre.

Last year’s champions Whitgift also required a shootout to take the Tier 1 bronze, while Katharine Lady Berkeley’s School took home the Tier 2 title after several fine performances.

St. George’s College started the day in style, beating Clifton College 3-0 in their opening game before grinding out a 1-0 win over Ipswich School.

They then drew 1-1 with Altrincham Grammar in their final group game to finish top of Pool A on goal difference and secure their place in the final.

That meant they were to face a Repton side who eased through Pool B, recording a 1-0 victory over The Perse School before overcoming Calday Grange Grammar and Whitgift 3-0 and 5-0 respectively.

The final was a much closer affair, with Will Dibiase opening the scoring for St. George’s college in the second half before George Fletcher equalised with just four minutes remaining.

But it was to be St. George’s College who came out on top in the shootout, with James Cake converting what would be the winning effort.

It was a much more one-sided affair in the Tier 2 final though as Katharine Lady Berkeley’s (KLB) School beat Kingswood School 4-0, with Jake Edwards scoring twice.

It was the beaten finalists who topped the group however, beating KLB 1-0 in the final pool game, but the Gloucestershire side rallied well for the pivotal game to take home this trophy.

There’s plenty more action coming tomorrow and you can follow it all as it happens here.
