Girls U14 T2 Finals, Sunday 12 May

GU14 T2 - Winners Fylde HC
The Tier 2 championships offer an opportunity for teams to play competitive hockey against teams of a similar standard during the season. With traditionally strong club playing in the Tier 1 Championships this means games are generally closer and teams focus on the development opportunities provided by the Championships.

The Area Finals bring together teams who performed well in the local leagues that run through the season.

Thanks to our wonderful host clubs who made their facilities available for teams, the U14 Tier 2 area finals held on Sunday 12th were a great success, giving our clubs’ U14 girls and boys the chance to demonstrate their superb levels of skill and sportsmanship.

South Area Finals at Working HC

The sun shone on all the teams attending the England Hockey South Area Finals kindly hosted by Woking Hockey Club.

Pool matches were hard fought by all teams and all matches closely contested with a high standard of hockey throughout.

After the pool matches, Alton came out on top with a win over Woking and draw against Wimbledon. Alton then went on to meet Horsham in the Finals who had played Winnchester, Yeovil and Sherborne in their own pool.

The final lived up to expectations with both teams playing excellent and competitive hockey with nothing between them teams until, on the brink of half time, Alton took the lead from a short corner.

Horsham fought back hard in the second half and Alton had to dig deep in defence, but at the final whistle managed to hold onto their lead and come away Champions.

Congratulations to all teams involved and a special thank you to Woking for being marvellous hosts.

Midlands Area Finals at Worcester HC

In the midlands, hosts Worcester HC took on Sutton Coldfield HC, Wotton Under Edge HC and Beeston HC.

Worcester and Wotton had early wins leading to a crunch second round match. In an end-to-end game, Wotton took their chances and won 3-0. With a draw in their final game against Sutton, this meant that Wotton were the worthy winners. Worcester defeated Beeston in their last game to take the runners-up spot.

Certificates were presented to the girls by the Welsh International, Cerys Preston. A great day for hockey!

The eventual winners were Fylde Hockey Club who won all three of their matches by 2-0.

Brooklands and Alderley Edge fought out a highly competitive draw in their encounter.

Presentations were overseen by Neston Hockey Club’s junior hockey coordinator, Sally Bush, who thanked the umpires and parents for helping to make the day such a success.

After the event, many of the girls cooled off with well-earned ice creams at the famous ice cream shops on Parkgate front.
