England U18 Girls 2 (1)
Ireland U18 Girls 0 (0)

Goals from Darcy Bourne and Lottie Summers helped England Under-18 Girls beat Ireland 2-0 and get their Six Nations Tournament campaign off to a good win in the Netherlands on Sunday afternoon.

Head Coach Sarah Kelleher was pleased with the win, but is looking forward to seeing the team play to their full potential in the coming days.

“It’s always nice to get a positive start and a win under our belts,” she said. “They really dominated in the first quarter, it was a positive start. If we could’ve converted a few more chances we could’ve had the game wrapped up early but Ireland fought hard.

“We looked composed in the final quarter, and if we keep passing the ball and playing to our principles we could unlock our potential more than we showed in this match.”

Darcy Bourne scored the opening goal from open play after seven minutes. A break down the right saw Lottie Summers pass inside where Bourne flicked it into the net.

The second goal came on 47 minutes. A good build-up saw England make eight passes as they worked it out from their own defence. Maddie Axford picked up the ball and worked down the right before crossing in. Summers saw her first effort parried back out, and she scored from the second strike.

England continue their Six Nations campaign with a tough match against Spain tomorrow.
