England Women's 040s win Gold on a day of mixed fortunes for the England sides

England claimed their first Gold medal at the European Cup in Rotterdam when the 040s women defeated Germany in a close game.

England went into this game knowing that a victory would secure the Gold medal.  In an extremey tight encounter they managed to get the only goal from Suzy Clapp and survived a penalty stroke against to claim the title.

In the other games the Men's 045s came from behind to squeeze passed Germany 6 - 5 and need to get  a point against Scotland tomorrow to win Gold.

The men's 035s beat a stubborn Irish side 6 - 3 to move into their final against Germany.

The Women's 035s had a narrow win by 3 - 2 against Spain to move into the final pool game of their age group against Germany tomorrow needng only a draw to clinch the title.

The Men's 040s suffered a disappointing defeat against Spain, which means they take the Bronze medal and the Women's 045s play for the Bronze tomorrow having drawn with The Nertherlands 1 - 1 but they then lost unluckily 2 - 1 on the shoot out, with two goals being disallowed as they were after the 8 second whistle.

A big day tomorrow with the prospect of four Gold medals.
