U15s Boys competition:
Futures Cup 2019 began with a goal fest as Saxon Tigers met Celtic Jaguars U15s.

The Tigers’ boys put in an emphatic performance to triumph 7-4. Though the Jaguars had taken a 2-0 lead inside 10 minutes through John Bennett and Osian Webber, Joseph Cotton replied with a quickfire brace to level it up. 

Goals continued to flood in as Joshua Tikare and a Liam Sillis brace for Saxon Tigers gave them a slender 5-4 lead with eight minutes remaining after Bennett and Ben Morgan had also got on the scoreboard for the Jaguars.

A late flurry of chances were well finished by Fin Webster and Walter Forsey to secure an opening game victory for the Tigers.

Futures Cup: Day 1 round-up

Wessex Leopards followed it up with an impressive 4-0 victory over Mercia Lynx to make a statement of intent.

Will Dibiase opened the scoring with a goal from a penalty corner right at the end of the first-quarter to give the Leopards the advantage.

The scoring didn’t stop there as Nick Schubach and Sammy Pratt scored within a minute of each other to solidify the lead at 3-0 going into half-time.

Captain Jacob Pengelly made sure of the result just after the restart with a converted penalty corner as the team put in an accomplished performance.

U15s Girls competition:
Saxon Tigers’ U15s Girls made a strong start to the competition with an emphatic 4-0 victory over Celtic Jaguars.

Jessica Olorenshaw was in fine form as she struck a first-half hattrick of field goals to put her team in a strong position.

The victory was assured when Florence Miller got one of her own with ten minutes remaining to complete an accomplished opening day performance.

It was another victory for Wessex Leopards in the U15s category as the girl’s team defeated Mercia Lynx 3-0. 

Sophie Gould bagged the first just before half-time before Jess Dyson doubled the lead just after the interval.

Anna Edwards added gloss to the scoreline with another just two minutes before the final whistle to secure a 3-0 victory.

U17s Boys competition:
Saxon Tigers made a strong start to Futures Cup with a battling 3-1 victory over Celtic Jaguars.

The Jaguars got out of the blocks quickly and took the early initiative, Conor O’Regan firing in within the first ten minutes of the match.

There was to be a swift response though as Connor Webb and Max Garner struck within a minute of each other to snatch the lead.

It was extended when Will Mead got in on the act as time ran down to ensure the team would get off to the perfect start.

Wessex Leopards secured an opening match victory with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Mercia Lynx.

Both sides looked evenly matched and it seemed like neither would be able to get on the scoreboard before the half-time break, however Toby Power’s field goal three minutes from time broke the deadlock.

Olly Witts doubled the lead just after half-time, however Mercia Lynx refused to lie down with Josh Brown pulling one back to make it a tense final fifteen minutes.

U17s Girls competition:
Saxon Tigers picked up a victory in every age category as the U17s completed the set with a composed 3-0 victory over Wessex Leopards as Georgie Cantrell’s early goal paved the way for a solid performance.

Tassy Williams and Eloise Richards also added to the tally in the second-half as the team made an encouraging start to the competition.

Mercia Lynx got their first win of the day as the U17s Girls topped Celtic Jaguars 2-1 in a balanced match.

Olivia Clegg opened the scoring for the Jaguars with just 20 minutes on the clock, but the advantage was quickly reversed as Ellie Yeomans and Imogen Gilgrass both scored within a minute to turn the tide.
