Team of the Week 2019/20 - Round 1

Team of the week 2019/20
It’s back! Time once again to share the fantastic stories from last weekend’s action across the country as we select our England Hockey #TeamOfTheWeek.

Our first XI of the 2019/20 season features a former Ireland international, the ‘Great Wall of Bedford’ and the Hockey Family pulling together in the best possible way.

Web - Team of the week - 14-10-2019

Goalkeeper
Name: Dylan Watson
Club: Bedford HC
Known as ‘The Great Wall of Bedford’, 17-year-old Dylan has been his team’s Player of the Match three weeks in a row. This week he saved a flick alongside stopping numerous other shots. He has taken to National League like a pro!

Dylan Watson

Defence
Name: Sam Pat
Club: Portsmouth HC
Despite her team being beaten at the weekend, Sam worked incredibly hard and commanded defence admirably.

Sam Pat

Name: Emer Acton (nee Harte)
Club: Chelmsford HC
Ex-Ireland international Emer marshalled a very young Chelmsford 1st XI defence and inspired her team to their first Investec WHL Conference East win of the season over Ipswich.

emer Acton

Name: Carolyn Pollard
Club: Tunbridge Wells HC
Carolyn began the game playing for the Royals but offered to swap sides to try and even things up when the opposition were 7-0 down. Carolyn helped the opposition defend and they even scored a goal as the game finished 9-1. What a player and what an impact with total strangers!

Midfield
Name: Freya Bythell
Club: Pendle Forest HC
Freya had an outstanding game and incredibly hard, tracking back to defend and supporting in attack. She also created the game’s only goal which meant Pendle Forest kept their unbeaten run in their first season as a National League team. She gives the same consistently high standard of performance every week.

Name: Jenni Martin
Club: City of Birmingham HC
Jenni was absolutely everywhere on the pitch - scoring, setting up, tackling, distributing (and being very clinical with it). All-in-all she has helped her team score a remarkable 29 goals in just five matches.

Names: Paul, Harry, Sam and Matthew (all volunteers)
Club: Silhillians HC
Our second fantastic Hockey Family moment this week occurred when four juniors offered to play for Yardley HC Badgers so they had a fair match. They all played brilliantly and it meant a great game played evenly and with great sportsmanship.

Attack
Name: Evie James
Club: Brooklands Poynton HC
Evie has recently moved up to senior hockey and has already been showing the team what she can do. She has scored four goals and been named Player of the Match twice and after just four games. She has had a fantastic start and shows real potential!

Name: Linda Jacks
Club: Woking Ladies HC
Linda had an incredible match at the weekend, scoring her first hat-trick of the season to help her team win 4-2 after a winless season last year. Both the team and coach are really excited to see how she plays for the rest of the season.

Name: Tom Woollatt
Club: Chelmsford
The Hockey Family is ever growing and showing its true meaning. Tom was brilliant scoring three goals in the first half before their goal keeper went down with an injury and Tom stepped in and played the second half in goal.

Name: Emma Johnson
Club: Stafford HC
Emma scored four goals, provided several assists and worked tirelessly in both attack and midfield throughout the game in a huge 10-0 victory that helped her team retain top spot in the league.
