Eastleigh Tri-Nations Begins Today

The International Tri-Nation Tournament at Fleming Park, Eastleigh, gets underway today and if you haven't got tickets the England Hockey website is the only place to get all the latest results.

With England having only returned to international indoor hockey earlier this year and Australia and Scotland more regular indoor competitors things may be tight and will certainly be fierce.

England have named six of Great Britain's Olympians in their men's side plus goalkeeper James Fair who was one of the accredited travelling reserves for Beijing.  On paper this should give them an edge but at this time last yeat Great Britain were still to qualify for the Olympics and the Olympians missed England's EuroHockey Indoor Nations Challenge campaign.  Scotland also boast an Olympian in Stephen Dick who is on good form in the Scottish indoor league this season, recently netting seven times in one match .  The Australians arrive in Eastleigh as a relatively unknown quantity, however an eigth place finish at the 2007 Indoor World Cup in Vienna shows what they are capable of on their day.

The management team for England's women have named a youthful side that includes the likes of Sam Quek and Becky Herbert who were involved in the Great Britain training squad earlier this year.  Also in the side is Bowdon Hightown's Jo Ellis who was part of the Great Britain team that finished sixth in Beijing, their highest Olympic finish for 14 years.  England will have to get up to speed quickly tonight as they take on Australia, whose women finished sixth at the Indoor World Cup in 2007, two places ahead of Scotland.  Amongst their number Scotland bring Captain and Goalkeeper Carmin Dow, who already has 20 indoor caps to her name, and Bonagrass Grove's Linsey Glass who has appeared 34 times for her country indoors. 

A limited number of tickets still remain for tonight's opening matches between England and Australia at Fleming Park, Eastleigh.  Those tickets will be available on the door at Fleming Park from 17:30 tonight on a cash sales only basis.  The doors to the hall open at 18:00.  To find the venue just enter the postcode SO50 9PG into Google Maps or similar.

Tickets for Saturday and Sunday have now sold out.  Spectators arriving at the venue on Saturday and Sunday without tickets will not be admitted.

The England Hockey website is the only place to keep up with the action from Eastleigh as it happens this weekend.  The results will appear in the International Results section of the website immediately after each match.  Match reports from England's games will follow at the close of play each day.
