Team of the week - Round 9

Team Of the Week Xmas 2019
It was a cold winter day and all across England players picked up their sticks and headed onto the pitch. With Christmas Joy in the air and the thought of being nominated for Team Of The Week glistening players rose to the challenge showing great skills and inspiration.

Goalkeeper
Name: Sue Hodgson
Club: Stokesley HC
Nomination: Sue is her club’s Chair, runs all four teams & umpires weekly. Although she doesn't usually get to play, she stepped in to help her squad she made some epic saves this weekend at the age of 61.

Defence
Name: Leigh Locker
Club: Burton HC
Nomination: This was Leigh’s last game before having surgery. She always gives her all, even when feeling under the weather. She is a rock at the back and makes stunning tackles from start to finish. Regardless of the result she is always the most positive player on the pitch.

Name: James Rogers
Club: Okehampton HC
Nomination: James is an absolute stalwart in defence, a formidable tackler and was instrumental in leading his team to victory.

James Rogers

Midfield
Name: Becca Scott

Name: Amelia Stanton-Speck
Club: Bromsgrove HC
Nomination: Bromsgrove Under 12s were hit hard by flu and sickness bugs leaving them short for the weekend. As a result Amelia, age just nine, stepped in to help her team. She worked tirelessly and faced bigger and older defenders but still managed to score three goals to secure a draw.

Name: Andrea Barnes
Club: Portsmouth HC
Nomination: Andrea was spot on this weekend playing out wide, making runs and absolutely bossing the game. She put in a phenomenal performance.

Andrea Barnes

Name: Stuart Boyling
Club: Romford HC
Nomination: Stuart was on form straight from the first whistle, running up the pitch and scoring a goal in just 12 seconds. It was an absolute beauty of a half volley too!

Lord-Stuart Boyling

Attack
Name: Dave Kinsey
Club: Aldridge & Walsall HC
Nomination: Making his return after a three year absence, proved he still had it (‘even at his age’ in the words of his nominator) by scoring a hat-trick.

Name: Anna Collinge
Club: Milton Keynes HC
Nomination: Aged just 13, Anna stepped up and played for the 1st XI and was absolutely brilliant, scoring her first senior league goal.

Name: Liam Medina
Club: Newcastle HC
Nomination: Liam wasn’t going to let playing against runaway league leaders Carlisle HC with a broken toe defeat him this weekend. He worked hard throughout and managed to scored twice. Toes are over-rated anyway…

Name: Helen Harper
Club: Chester HC
Nomination: Helen scored two Christmas crackers in a 5-2 win. She battled through despite being on the receiving end of some lively chat and spicy tackles from her 'local' club. Resilience personified!
