PREVIEWS: Investec Women's Hockey League

WOMEN SAT FIX FEB 22 - 480

Play-off hopefuls Clifton Robinsons face two crucial home matches this weekend, with most teams in the Investec Women’s Hockey League Premier Division facing a double-header weekend.

Without a win in their last three matches, Clifton Robinsons lie fifth and could get their push for a place in the top four back on track this weekend as they face bottom of the table University of Birmingham on Saturday and fourth-placed Buckingham on Sunday.

“It is an exciting time of the season so we are very much looking forward to playing both games this weekend, especially as we are playing both games at home,” said Clifton Robinson’s first team coach Juliet Rayden.

“It has been a long build up since Christmas so the squad are excited to be back playing competitive games.

“We mustn’t look too far ahead this weekend and ensure we focus on one game at a time. Getting points at this stage of the season is always important. We need to concentrate on our performance and ensuring we improve in areas we did not do well last weekend.”

Prior to their match at Clifton Robinsons on Sunday, Buckingham have a tough clash with unbeaten leaders Surbiton on Saturday. Surbiton then return home to face Holcombe on Sunday.

Holcombe – who are level on points with Clifton and also have play-off ambitions – have a Sunday clash with Hampstead & Westminster, who go to East Grinstead on Saturday.

Beeston could also make the play-offs in a close league. They go to Loughborough Students on Saturday and host Bowdon Hightown on Sunday. And after their clash at Clifton Robinsons on Saturday the University of Birmingham are at home against Loughborough Students on Sunday.

In the Investec Women’s Division One South unbeaten leaders Wimbledon face third-placed Harleston Magpies, while Reading go to Cambridge City as they bid to catch Wimbledon.

And in Investec Division One North relegation threatened Belper have a tough trip to leaders Leicester City. Elsewhere, the University of Durham are third and entertain Brooklands-Poynton.
