Team of the Week 2020/21 - Round 3

Team of the week 2019/20
This weeks team showcases some up and coming talent, heroes, clubmen and more.

Name: Charlie Bransby
Club: Oxford Hockey
Nomination: Charlie went above and beyond for a junior who went down with a head and neck injury today. She was incredible at handling the situation and keeping our player calm and immobile and stayed with her throughout. ❤️ She is such a hero! 

Name: Joel Dennis
Club: Norwich Dragons
Nomination: Joel was an absolute brick wall in defence, with multiple nominations his team mates said, ‘He put in a sterling effort considering his illness. A real story of endurance and heroism, a role model for the youth development.’
‘A superb performance today keeping the sheet extra clean. #1 defensive operator.’
‘ A selfless, swashbuckling performance from a classy and elegant centre back. A true role model.’
‘ He may be a mild mannered accountant by day but once this aged warrior drags his glass knees onto the pitch, he may as well wear his pants outside his shorts such is the Superman quality of his performance. Yet again the crowds of Lois Lanes who came to watch one of his last performances on a hockey pitch, were left swooning with joy. Well done SuperD.’

Name: Mohammed Dean,
Club: City of Birmingham Hockey Club
Nomination: Mohammed lead from the back, he coached with positional talk and encouragement despite a few years out of the sport. He made some great tackles and started good build up play with a team of mostly u18s. 

Name: Sarah Vickers
Club: Macclesfield Hockey Club
Nomination: Sarah is making history at Macclesfield HC this year by captaining the Ladies 5th XI, a brand-new team for the club. Even though the ladies were losing you could hear the uplifting half time speech which included “Play like we love each other” which lead to a 0-0 score line in the second half. Sarah is a fantastic captain and incredible defender.

Name: Susannah Cater
Club: Havant Hockey Club
Nomination: Soooooozzzz aka Sausage aka Susannah managed to lead her team to victory. The game V Alton was evenly matched, but Susannah managed to score a cheeky goal and stop a last-minute PC shot on the line for Havant to take home the 3 points. 

Name: Kirsty Chaney
Club: Badminton and Pucklechurch Ladies HC
Nomination: Today Kirsty played multiple positions showing how adaptable her skills are!! She never gives up, showing determination, fight and amazing stick skills to get around whichever opposition player was in her way. Kirsty contributed to a 3-2 win for her team. Amazing skill and effort! 

Name: Zoe Chang
Club: Leighton buzzard hockey club
Nomination: Zoe picked up a stick for the first time in February this year and has shown determination and commitment to a learning a new sport, taking on board coaching tactics, new skills and never giving up. She has grown into her role and even scored her first league game yesterday.

Name: Joshua Hewett
Club: UEA Mens Hockey
Nomination: Despite being new to the game Joshua been an absolute super star on the pitch having played both in midfield and defence- he’s been a key player both on and off the pitch. Often finding him motivating the team even after defeats, he’s proved himself to be a solid defensive midfielder whose enthusiasm and keeness is unmatched. He’s known for his stick skills and intricate passing. We want to bring the beautiful sport of hockey to more people so they can enjoy it too and feel that having Joshua in the England Hockey team of the week would send out a message to future/aspiring hockey players to come try and enjoy the sport.

Name: Scott Davies
Club: City of Birmingham Hockey Club
Nomination: Scott scored 2 goals in a thrilling 3-3 draw making lots of build-up play and opportunities and taking his chance in front of goal. Encouraging younger players and helped the team secure another game unbeaten. 

Name: Lauren Entract
Club: Old Georgian’s Hockey Club
Nomination: our Ladies 4s played their first game as a team today with Lauren, who is a member of OGs junior section, making her debut in adult hockey. The ladies won 12-2 with Lauren scoring an amazing 5 of those goals and voted ‘Man of the Match’ by the squad. Keep those goals coming, Lauren!!

Club: Romford Hockey Club
Nomination: Ashley Meyer aka the goal machine scored 9 for Romford HC. This included 3 drag flicks, 4 top corner goals and setting up 3 goals including the opportunity to score his 10th goal of the game only to unselfishly pass the ball once the keeper had been beaten in Romfords 12-1 win.

Name: Bridget Petty
Nomination: Bridget fell over in the first 5 minutes of the match umpiring. She sprained her wrist but carried on, and then going to hospital after. Trooper.

Name: Stephen Williams
Club: Stone Hockey Club
Nomination: Stephen umpired a game, then coached a game then played a game grabbing 2 goals and 4 assists from midfield #ClubMan

Club: Woking Hockey Club
Nomination: Despite injury Andrew still turned up to matches to film… and even better, he finally realised that pitches have straight horizontal lines which make levelling the camera much easier!
