Talent Development: Further update to refine and develop shared thinking

England Hockey - Talent Development
In August, Performance Director Ed Barney shared exciting news about England Hockey’s aspirations for performance hockey in England including the direction we would like to take with the hockey community to bring about a transformational step change in talent development.

Today, Ed and the Performance Team are sharing an update including the introduction of a proposed new Talent Development Strategy. This is intended primarily for those involved in delivering talent development environments (current and future) as we explore, refine and develop our shared thinking. Following the upcoming forums and focus groups [more details below] we very much look forward to sharing a version which excites players and parents, and answers all their questions.

Talent Development - A New Way Forward - November 2020

England Hockey recognises the important role played by partners including clubs, coaches, schools, Counties and Regions in the delivery of talent development environments and are excited about how we continue to work together over the coming years.

This latest document is not a final version. A critical next step is to listen and hear from those currently providing talent development opportunities at all stages of player development.  We want to draw upon the wealth of experience and expertise that exists to co-create and shape the new talent system.

This version is based on current research in the area of talent identification and development, the incorporation of what you told us in the Talent System Survey (conducted earlier this year) and insight and analysis of what may be best for our sport.

Over the coming month, there are a number of opportunities to engage and contribute to this new direction, with a series of forums and focus groups from 22 November.

The link to sign up to the forums is available on the final page of the document. Please sign up by 5pm on Friday 20 November. We look forward to discussing this over the coming weeks.

Please go to our Talent Strategy 2021 section for all previous documents and information.
