Mixed Results for England Indoors

There were mixed results for England indoor sides tonight in Birmingham with the women outplaying Scotland to win 3-1 while an inexperienced men's side lost 7-3 to their Scottish counterparts.

England indoor debutants Susie Gilbert and the impressive Chloe Rogers netted either side of half time to add to Jo Ellis' seventh minute opener and the defence held solid until the final minute of the game when Vikki Bunce netted a consolation goal for the Scots.

In the men's match that followed England handed debuts to eight of their 12 man squad but actually took the lead after just three minutes through Bowdon's Simon Egerton.  Unfortunately, England were undone by a series of Scottish penalty corners despite the early heroics of Beeston goalkeeper George Pinner.  Niall Stott, who plays for East Grinstead in the England Hockey League Premier Division, scored a hat-trick for Scotland while Egerton netted another, sandwiching Will Naylor's 26th minute goal.

The sides will meet again in Scotland in less than a fortnight's time at the Lagoon Centre in Paisley.
