England Hockey Board Member Appointed to LOCOG

Long standing England Hockey Board Member Andy Tapley has been appointed to LOCOG as Hockey & Wheelchair Rugby Services Manager.

Andy was recently chair of the Operational Planning Group for the Samsung FIH Hockey Champions Trophy in Nottingham in July. He carried out a similar role for the EuroHockey Nations Championships in Manchester in 2007.

Andy TapleyHe is also a a member for both EHF and FIH Marketing Committees. Andy is a qualified hockey coach and still plays occasionally as well as umpiring when time allows.

Outside of sport Andy was deputy chairman of a large NHS Acute Hospital Trust and a senior executive at Kingston Communications a national IT and telecoms company.

Hockey at the Olympic Games

The sport of Hockey within the Olympic Games includes both men’s and women’s events. The Hockey and Wheelchair Rugby Event Management Team responsibilities include the planning and organisation of the Hockey and Wheelchair Rugby competitions, providing sports specific input into the briefs for venue design and functional area planning, development of the training venues, test event planning and the development of the competition schedules.

The Hockey and Wheelchair Rugby Services Manager is responsible for the planning, organisation, management and conduct of the administration functions of the Hockey events at the London 2012 Olympic Games. They will also support the project management of the Wheelchair Rugby event at the Paralympic Games.
