Indoor World Cup on Eurosport

The England Hockey men are off to Poznan this weekend ahead of their first ever FIH Indoor World Cup campaign, which gets underway on Tuesday.

Matches from the Indoor World Cup will be shown on Eurosport 2 and may be streamed on the Eurosport Player (to be confirmed), however, only matches taking place on Pitch 1 will be shown.

England will play their opening four Pool B games on Pitch 2 before facing Austria on Friday (11th) at 12:45 GMT on Pitch 1.  We are disappointed to report that, as things stand, this match does not feature on the Eurosport schedules for that day.  The England Hockey will be discussing this further. Any change to this situation will be publicised on this website and via our Twitter (@EnglandHockey) and Facebook ('Official England Hockey') page.

We will of course be covering every step of England's Indoor World Cup campaign via the website.

If England qualify for the semi finals on Saturday 12th by finishing in the top two of their pool, those matches are set to be played on Pitch 1.

Despite a superb 18 months in the outdoor game, England go into the six day tournament as relative underdogs.  With countries like Germany, Russia, Austria, the Czech Republic and Poland far more experienced in playing the indoor game, England will have their work cut out in Pool B.

England only returned to the indoor version of the game four years ago and with the emphasis on developing players' skills for the outdoor game, the team has done well to progress from the third tier of European indoor hockey to the World Cup in such a short space of time.  England's place in Poznan was sealed after topping the tables at the 2010 EuroHockey Indoor Nations Trophy, also in Poznan.  That outcome also means England will play in the top tier, the EuroHockey Indoor Nations Championship, next year.

At the World Cup, England's Pool B opponents are Austria, the Czech Republic, Iran, Russia and the USA.  Four years ago in Vienna, the Czech Republic, Russia and Austria finished fourth, fifth and sixth respectively in the 12 team tournament.  Germany, in Pool A with Australia, Canada, Namibia, the Netherlands and hosts Poland, is the only team to have won the Indoor World Cup, having lifted the trophy in 2003 and 2007.
