Whilst the Junior Hockey Framework aims to improve the provision of hockey across all environments, we recognise that clubs remain the heart of our sport, full of passionate volunteers who want to pass on their love for hockey to the next generation.
For clubs, our intention with the framework is to help to provide safe, welcoming and positive experiences for young people. We want young people to flourish in our hockey clubs, growing as individuals both on and off the field. We will be developing a culture in our sport where young people feel like they have a voice in shaping their experiences, and are connected to something bigger. The role that coaches, parent helpers and club volunteers will play in this is crucial, and through our support and guidance, we want to help grow junior sections through the provision of relevant, age- appropriate session content, safe environments and developmentally appropriate playing formats.
Benefits for Clubs
The Junior Hockey Framework will provide clubs with best practice guidance for safe and welcoming environments and a blueprint for hockey delivery, bringing the following benefits:
- Access to standardised content, high-quality training, and reliable resources.
- Professional development and certification opportunities.
- Clear guidelines for player development, safety, and well-being
- A clear, supportive framework for programme delivery and governance.
- Improved player retention and recruitment, leading to growth
- Enhanced reputation and stronger community engagement.
- Alignment with school and community activity creates a higher chance of transition to clubs
What happened to Hockey Heroes and Quicksticks?
As we develop the Junior Hockey Framework, we’re putting these two programmes on hold. However, we’ve taken the best bits from both programmes, and are using them to support clubs in providing brilliant experiences for more 5-11 year olds.
Clubs can use our new content to deliver an entry level 8-week course, but it can also be used for regular training sessions, taster sessions, school outreach etc, and brings greater flexibility.
We no longer use the Clubspark platform so registrations will need to be managed by the club, sessions can be advertised through Find A Club, and kit / equipment can be purchased through our online store.
