As an aspiring hockey umpire,  you clearly do not mind making tough decisions, but you would rather keep them on the field than off. That is why England Hockey have developed a flexible learning pathway to complement the Umpire Development Pathway, to allow you to learn as and when it suits you.

The learning opportunities around umpiring are delivered either face to face (in person and / or virtually), or via an interactive modular approach, that you can access whenever suits you. These are accessible on the Hockey Hub.

Many of our umpires are happy umpiring at their own club. However, if you want to progress as an umpire, you should join your local Umpiring Association who will offer you umpiring opportunities to develop and undertake higher level matches within your area.

A small number of umpires each year will complete a programme of study to complete their National Hockey Umpire award, allowing them to become a member of the National Programme Umpiring Association (NPUA). Working closely with England Hockey, the NPUA is responsible for the development of umpires operating in the National Leagues and internationally.
