Salary: £12.71 per hour

Weekly gross pay: £190.65, subject to statutory deductions

JOB PURPOSE

The postholder will represent Indian Gymkhana Club as a senior hockey player and support its junior hockey programme as a supervised helper.

The role aims to strengthen senior team performance while supporting the development and enjoyment of junior players.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

Playing responsibilities

1.⁠ ⁠Represent the club in league, cup and friendly matches.
2.⁠ ⁠Attend senior training, tactical meetings and match-preparation activities.
3.⁠ ⁠Maintain the fitness, conduct and playing standards expected of a senior player.
4.⁠ ⁠Follow the reasonable instructions of the Head Coach, Team Manager and club officials.
5.⁠ ⁠Support other senior players through positive leadership and communication.
6.⁠ ⁠Comply with England Hockey regulations and the club’s code of conduct.

Junior programme responsibilities

1.⁠ ⁠Assist qualified junior coaches with safe and enjoyable sessions.
2.⁠ ⁠Demonstrate core hockey skills and support coach-led exercises.
3.⁠ ⁠Encourage junior players and provide constructive feedback under the lead coach’s direction.
4.⁠ ⁠Assist with junior fixtures, festivals, camps, equipment and attendance records.
5.⁠ ⁠Promote respect, inclusion and good sporting behaviour.

The postholder will not independently plan or lead coaching sessions unless England Hockey confirms that this is permitted.

Safeguarding

1.⁠ ⁠Follow club and England Hockey safeguarding policies.
2.⁠ ⁠Maintain appropriate boundaries when working with children.
3.⁠ ⁠Report safeguarding, welfare and injury concerns promptly.
4.⁠ ⁠Complete an enhanced DBS check and all required safeguarding and England Hockey training before starting junior duties.

General responsibilities

1.⁠ ⁠Represent the club professionally.
2.⁠ ⁠Attend required meetings and club activities connected with the role.
3.⁠ ⁠Take reasonable care of club facilities, equipment and kit.
4.⁠ ⁠Follow the club’s health and safety, equality, disciplinary and data-protection policies.
5.⁠ ⁠Record working hours accurately and report any change to immigration or playing eligibility.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential

1.⁠ ⁠Competitive senior-level hockey experience.
2.⁠ ⁠Strong technical and tactical knowledge.
3.⁠ ⁠Effective communication with senior and junior players.
4.⁠ ⁠A reliable, positive and professional approach.
5.⁠ ⁠Availability for evening and weekend work.
6.⁠ ⁠Commitment to safeguarding and inclusive participation.
7.⁠ ⁠Eligibility to play in the relevant England Hockey competition.
8.⁠ ⁠The legal right and any required endorsement to undertake the role in the UK.

Desirable

1.⁠ ⁠Experience assisting with junior hockey.
2.⁠ ⁠A recognised hockey coaching qualification.
3.⁠ ⁠Safeguarding or first-aid qualifications.
4.⁠ ⁠National, regional or equivalent playing experience.

WORKING PATTERN

The 15-hour working week may include:

•⁠  ⁠Senior training.

•⁠  ⁠League, cup and friendly matches.

•⁠  ⁠Junior programme assistance.

•⁠  ⁠Match preparation and review.

•⁠  ⁠Required meetings and club activities.

All required working time must be recorded and paid. Additional hours require prior approval.

REMUNERATION

The postholder will receive £12.71 for every working hour.

Pay will be processed through payroll and will be subject to tax, National Insurance and other lawful deductions.

The hourly rate must be reviewed if the statutory minimum wage changes during the contract.

ACCOMMODATION AND BENEFITS

Club-arranged accommodation will be provided during the contract.

The address, occupancy arrangements, included bills, accommodation value and any employee contribution will be recorded in a separate accommodation agreement.

The club may also provide meals, travel, kit, insurance, medical support and visa or registration assistance. Any additional payment or benefit must be confirmed in writing.

Minimum-wage, payroll, tax and National Insurance rules will apply to all pay and benefits.

ENGLAND HOCKEY DISCLOSURE

Where an England Hockey endorsement is required, the club will disclose the complete package offered to the player, including:

•⁠  ⁠Salary and working hours.

•⁠  ⁠Accommodation and any employee contribution.

•⁠  ⁠Meals and food support.

•⁠  ⁠Flights and travel.

•⁠  ⁠Match fees, bonuses and allowances.

•⁠  ⁠Kit, insurance, medical support and visa costs.

•⁠  ⁠Any other cash payment or benefit in kind.

The club will retain supporting contracts, agreements, invoices and payroll calculations.

CONDITIONS OF APPOINTMENT

Employment is conditional upon:

1.⁠ ⁠Proof of the right to work in the UK.
2.⁠ ⁠England Hockey playing eligibility and any required endorsement.
3.⁠ ⁠Any required visa and Certificate of Sponsorship.
4.⁠ ⁠A satisfactory enhanced DBS check.
5.⁠ ⁠Completion of required safeguarding, training, registration and insurance requirements.
6.⁠ ⁠Any required No Objection Certificate.
7.⁠ ⁠Acceptance of the employment contract, accommodation agreement and club policies.

The club must confirm with England Hockey that the junior helper duties are permitted before issuing the final contract.
