Sonning HC: Junior Lead Coach

Sonning Hockey Club are looking to hire a Lead Junior Coach! 

Sonning Hockey Club is looking for an enthusiastic and reliable Junior Colts Coach to support and develop young players within our thriving junior section. This is an exciting opportunity for someone passionate about hockey, youth development, and creating a positive and enjoyable learning environment.

The successful candidate will help deliver engaging coaching sessions, encourage teamwork and confidence, and support players in developing both their technical ability and understanding of the game.

Coaching Schedule

• Tuesdays: 6.30pm - 7.30pm
• Potential for Wednesday Colts training if required
• Season: September through to March
• Monthly tournament coaching: First Sunday of each month

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in planning and delivering structured hockey training sessions
• Support player development across varying ages and abilities
• Promote teamwork, sportsmanship, discipline, and enjoyment of hockey
• Ensure coaching sessions are safe, inclusive, and engaging
• Help organise and prepare coaching equipment
• Work closely with lead coaches, volunteers, and parents
• Encourage player participation, confidence, and progression
• Support match preparation and monthly tournament coaching

Ideal Candidate

• Passion for hockey and youth coaching
• Positive, enthusiastic, and approachable manner
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Reliable and organised
• Previous playing or coaching experience desirable but not essential
• England Hockey coaching qualifications beneficial, or willingness to work towards them
• DBS check required (or willingness to obtain one)
