Player Profile
David has been part of the coaching set-up for England and Great Britain since 2013, initially working as assistant coach for the senior and U21 men's teams before transitioning to the women's programme in 2017. He served as temporary head coach for England's women at the 2017 Hockey World League Semi-Finals, when Danny Kerry was taken ill, and for Great Britain's women at the 2018 Champions Trophy, as well as assisting England's women at the 2018 World Cup and helping GB achieve bronze at Tokyo 2020.
He was named head coach of both the England and Great Britain women's teams in September 2021, and led the side to a historic first Commonwealth Games gold medal at Birmingham 2022 — an achievement for which he was nominated for UK Coaching's Great Coaching Moment Award. He has since guided England and Great Britain through the Paris 2024 Olympic cycle, reaching the quarter-finals in Paris, and the qualification campaign for the 2026 FIH Hockey World Cup, where England enter as the No. 7-ranked side in the world having topped the World Cup Qualifier in Hyderabad, India.
Before his coaching career, David played more than 100 international games as a forward for Scotland, and previously coached Loughborough Students.
