Player Profile
James Mazarelo is a graduate of the England Development Pathway, having progressed through the England pathway at U16, U18 and U21 level, as well as Great Britain U21s.
He earned his first senior England call-up in February 2022 for a Pro League fixture against Spain. He went on to compete for England at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, winning bronze in his major tournament debut at age 21, and made his senior Great Britain debut later that year in Argentina, earning Player of the Match honours for his shootout saves against the Netherlands.
Mazarelo featured for Great Britain at the 2023 EuroHockey Championships, helping the side to silver, and was part of the England squad at the 2023 FIH World Cup in Bhubaneswar-Rourkela, India, playing in all three pool matches plus the quarter-final shootout loss to Germany. He has continued to rotate between the England and GB goalkeeping posts through subsequent Pro League seasons, now playing his club hockey for Old Georgians after spells at Loughborough Students and Surbiton.
