Women’s EHL

Gloucester City kept hold of top spot in Women’s Division One North after a resounding 6-2 defeat of previously unbeaten Beeston, the Nottingham-based side’s first loss since September 2024. Jess Roe hit a hat-trick of corners either side of the break in the win which means they are a point clear of Buckingham, who beat Leeds 4-2 and two points further back are Sutton Coldfield who were 5-1 winners over Pendle Forest which included a brace for the long-serving Vicky Woolford. Loughborough Students 2s are level with Sutton Coldfield after a 2-0 win at Ben Rhydding, who are now bottom. There was a first win for Olton & West Warwicks, 2-0 against Repton which moved them off the foot of the table.

Holcombe remain top in Division One South where the teams in the top half of the table at the close of play beat those in the bottom. Valentina Turienzo scored twice as Holcombe won 3-1 at Southgate. They lead Exeter University and Reading 2s on goal difference. Exeter needed a 65th minute corner from Emily Maclean to edge past Bristol Firebrands 4-3 and Reading defeated bottom of the table Harleston Magpies 1-0. Teddington who also overcame Guildford 1-0 are a point back. Surbiton 2s moved up the table after their 4-0 win against Sevenoaks.

Cardiff & Met have made a great start since their promotion to Conference West and made it four wins out of four with a 3-2 win at Trojans. Alana Hamilton Tombs scored twice including a 69th minute winner after Trojans had fought back from two down with eight minutes left to level things up. Cardiff are two points clear of Team Bath Buccaneers and Oxford University. Bath took the honours in their derby with Clifton Robinsons 2s wining 2-1 thanks to a last gasp corner from Charlotte Barr. Oxford beat bottom of the table Slough 3-0, Lansdown won by the same score at local rivals Cheltenham and Marlow beat Exeter 3-1.

Alderley Edge and Bowdon 2s both have 100% records in Conference North with the former leading on goal difference. Both enjoyed narrow wins in different circumstances on Saturday. A Darcey Pawezowski goal was enough for Alderley Edge to win 1-0 at Durham University 2s whilst Bowdon edged out Kirkby Stephen 5-4, coming from 4-2 down going into the final quarter, Martha Bainbridge having netted a hat-trick for the Cumbrians. Whitley Bay & Tynemouth are five points back after their 1-0 win over Wakefield. Newcastle University beat Didsbury Northern 5-2 and Fylde picked up their first point in a 2-2 draw at Sheffield.

St Albans, who won 4-1 at Stourport, are top of Conference Midlands with 10 points and lead a chasing group of four teams, who all won at the weekend by a point. Cambridge City in second won 8-0 at bottom of the table Harleston Magpies 2s with Emily McStea, Emilia Noordhuis and Rhianne Noor all claiming braces. Leicester City beat Nottingham Trent University 2-0, the students are yet to pick up a point. Cambridge University overcame Cannock 3-1 and Birmingham University 2s were 4-2 winners at Oxford Hawks.

London Wayfarers remain top of Conference East with a 4-2 win over Guildford which saw them 4 up within 36 minutes. Old Loughtonians are a point back after their 3-0 defeat of Barnes 2 and they lead Hampstead & Westminster 2s on goal difference after Hampstead’s 2-1 victory against Wimbledon 2s. Spencer lost ground after being held 1-1 by Canterbury where former international colleagues Laura Unsworth and Susannah Townsend were in opposing dugouts as coaches. Old Georgians and Wapping drew 0-0.

Open/Men’s EHL

Promoted Repton continued their great start in Open/Men’s Division One North with a 6-1 win at Olton & West Warwicks to maintain their 100% record, James Sookias and Ed Wilkins both scoring twice. Two of their closest rivals, Bowdon and Loughborough Students, played out a 2-2 draw which means Loughborough trail Repton by two points. Bowdon are fourth, behind Harborne on goal difference after the latter’s 3-0 win in their Town v Gown battle with Birmingham University. Birmingham are at the foot of the table without a point. Durham University won 3-1 at Deeside Ramblers and Nottingham University 4-0 at Timperley with the two defeated sides playing out a 2-2 draw in Sunday’s rearranged game.

Exeter University made it four wins out of four and lead Division One South by two points after a 6-3 defeat of Canterbury. Indian Gymkhana, in second place, also scored heavily, winning 5-3 at bottom of the table Havant. Guildford move up to third with a 2-1 away win at Teddington. Marcus Ambrose hit the winner for Sevenoaks with two minutes left on the clock to secure a 4-3 win over Old Loughtonians. Richmond, who before Saturday were without a point on their return back to this level got off the make beating Surbiton 2s 4-2.

Leeds and Neston both kept up their perfect starts in Conference North with comfortable wins. Leeds, who are top on goal difference, beat Lindum 4-1 with Robert Goldthorp netting a hat-trick. Ollie Mills did likewise in Neston’s 6-0 win against Durham University 2s. Matt Gibson made it a hat-trick of hat-tricks in the Division in Doncaster’s 6-2 defeat of bottom of the table Oxton which moves Doncaster up to third. Cameron Hallowes scored twice in Sheffield’s Yorkshire derby 3-1 victory at Ben Rhydding who are winless. Didsbury Northern returned from Newcastle University with three points after a 3-2 win.

Chichester remain top of Conference West but were made to work hard for the points by bottom of the table Marlow, running out 3-2 winners . They move two points clear at the top as their nearest rivals dropped points. Clifton Robinsons drew 2-2 at Team Bath Buccaneers, leading through two Ben Shardlow corners until a 64th minute equaliser from Henry Swan. Ashmoor went down 3-2 at Fareham. Isca won for the first time, 3-1 at neighbours Exeter University 2s and Rhys Gowman scored twice as Cardiff & Met 2s also picked up their first three points in a 3-1 win against Bristol University.

Five teams are on seven points in Conference East and only two points separate first to eighth in a congested table. A late James Cutter goal, his second of the game earned Old Cranleighan a 2-2 draw at London Wayfarers and they go top. Wayfarers have drawn three out of four games to date. Previous leaders Chelmsford were beaten 3-2 at Bromley & Beckenham and drop to second whilst BromBeck join the group on seven points. Hampstead & Westminster 2s are third after a 5-3 win over Wimbledon 2s with Matt Guise-Brown netting four corners. Spencer are fourth thanks to their 3-0 win at Brighton & Hove. Southgate 2s and Holcombe 2s played out a 2-2 draw.

Ben White scored twice for Conference Midlands front-runners Leek who beat Norwich City 3-1. City of Peterborough who were second and unbeaten going into the weekend were beaten 2-1 at Nottingham University 2s who replace them in the table a point behind the leaders. St Albans who won 1-0 at Stourport are a further point back. Oxford Hawks put seven past Birmingham University 2s without reply and Banbury picked up their first win, 2-1 at Barford Tigers.
