Across the EHL | Week Nine
WOMEN'S EHL
It was a good weekend for Womens Division One North leaders Buckingham who not only won but also saw their nearest rivals all drop points to leave then seven points clear at the top. Goals from Caitlin Ralls and Sophia Crawshay gave them a 2-0 win at Beeston who could have moved to within two points of Buckingham had the result been reversed. Second placed Gloucester City were beaten 5-1 at Sutton Coldfield, where Emma McCabe netted a hat-trick, Third placed Loughborough Students 2s were held 1-1 at Pendle Forest. Ben Rhydding moved off the foot of the table with a 1-0 win at Olton & West Warwicks who replace them in tenth. They also go above Repton, beaten 4-0 at home by Leeds who went above them in the process too.
Division One South leaders Teddington beat Holcombe 3-0. Olivia D’Castro, Miri Maroney and Gemma Croker scored their goals which mean they stay top whilst Holcombe are now eight points behind them in fourth. Exeter University trail Teddington on goal difference after their 4-1 home win against Southgate. Reading 2s move up to third thanks to a 2-1 win at Surbiton 2s. At the other end of the table Guildford stay ninth after their 3-2 home reverse against Bristol Firebrands. Bottom of the table Harleston Magpies came close to a first point but ended up beaten 2-1 at home by Sevenoaks.
Conference West leaders Cardiff & Met were beaten for the first time, with Lansdown winning 1-0 in Wales thanks to an Anna Payne goal. Lansdown move to within two points of the top. Team Bath Buccaneers are a point further back thanks to their 3-1 defeat of Slough, Tabitha Tinniswood scoring two of their goals. Fourth placed Oxford University won 1-0 at bottom of the table Exeter who also saw Clifton Robinsons 2s, level on points with them before Saturday, beat Trojans 2-1. Clifton go above Slough and Cheltenham, who lost 3-2 at Marlow.
It was all change at the top of Conference North where Bowdon 2s, leaders going into Saturday’s games were beaten for the first time, 1-0 at home by Newcastle University. Merle Kal scored the only goal and the result puts Newcastle level on 22 points with Bowdon but above them on goal difference. Alderley Edge are top, also on the same points, after their 4-1 win at Shefield, Amelie Long netting a treble. There were narrow losses for the bottom two with Didsbury Northern losing 1-0 at Kirkby Stephen and Wakefield going down by the same scoreline at home to Fylde. Isabelle Moriarty hit a hat-trick in Durham University 2s 5-0 win at Whitley Bay & Tynemouth.
The top three teams in Conference Midlands all drew. Top of the table Cambridge City were held to a 2-2 draw at home by third placed Leicester City. Birmingham University 2s in second drew 1-1 with ninth placed Nottingham Trent University. These results allowed St Albans to move within five points of the top after their 4-1 win at home to Cannock. Millie Ely scored twice as Cambridge University beat Stourport 4-3, holding on after netting four goals in the first 25 minutes. Oxford Hawks beat bottom of the table Harleston Magpies 2s 9-0 with Eloise Ward bagging a double hat-trick and Ruby Jamieson keeping her third successive clean sheet..
Only eight goals were scored in Conference East with no games decided by more than one goal. Spencer stay top after a 1-0 win at Old Georgians, Kathryn Meenan scoring the only goal. Hampstead & Westminster 2s are a point back after a win by the same scoreline at Wapping. Old Loughtonians are a place and a point further back thanks to their 2-1 win at Wimbledon 2s. The bottom two met at Barnes 2 where Guildford 2 took the points in a 1-0 win to move up to eighth. The only game not to see an away win was Canterbury - London Wayfarers which ended 1-1.

OPEN/MEN'S EHL
Exeter University stay top of Open/Mens Division One South after they beat bottom of the table Surbiton 2s 7-2. It was 1-1 at half time but Exeter hit Surbiton for six in a second half 20 minute blitz. Guildford went above Indian Gymkhna into second after they beat them 4-3. With 20 minutes to go Gymkhana led 3-2, Jagdev Bal scoring two of their goals, Chris Way having netted a brace for Guildford. The home side turned things around with two goals in three minutes from Will Tristem and Ben Rees. Sevenoaks also go above Gymkhana after their 3-1 defeat of Richmond. Richmond slip to ninth as Havant leapfrog them after a second successive win, 5-3 against Canterbury with Viacheslav Paziuk and Rory Jack both scoring twice.
A Si Claris stroke was the only goal of the game and gave Repton a 1-0 win at home to Timperley. This kept them three points clear at the top of Division One North. In contrast second placed Bowdon won an eleven goal thriller at Harborne, 6-5. Jake Litchfield had given Harborne a two goal lead within the first four minutes but with twenty minutes left Bowdon led 4-3 when Jake Bowen scored. The teams swapped goals and Harborne looked to have earned a point from a Cameron Pearce goal with three minutes left only for Bowen to net his second a minute later. Loughborough Students stayed in touch in third with a 3-2 win at Durham University. Montgomery Neave netted the winner with three minutes left. Birmingham University put five points between themselves and ninth placed Olton & West Warwicks in beating them 3-1. Nottingham University won 4-1 at bottom of the table Deeside Ramblers.
The top five teams beat the bottom five in Conference North to mean it was status quo at the top of the table. Leeds are five points clear of Neston after a 4-2 win at Durham University 2s. Neston beat Ben Rhydding 2-1. Doncaster in third beat Newcastle University 3-2 thanks to Jack Stoves’, a famous Donny name, 69th minute winner. Lindum enjoyed a 4-1 home win against Didsbury Northern whilst Sheffield won by the same scoreline at Oxton. Sixth placed Didsbury are on twelve points, the other losers are all on five.
Clifton Robinsons go four points clear in Conference West after they won and nearest rivals Chichester drew. Clifton beat Ashmoor 7-1 with Isaac Hocking scoring three and Ben Stone two. Chichester were held to a 2-2 draw at home to Cardiff & Met 2s. Team Bath Buccaneers join Chichester on seventeen points after they beat Isca 2-1. Sam Barnett scored four as Exeter University 2s moved off the bottom of the table with a 7-2 win at home to Fareham. This boosted their goal difference too so Isca, and Bristol University, who lost 4-1 at Marlow, are also on seven points, but drop below them.
Hampstead & Westminster 2s stay top of Conference East but now only on goal difference after they were held to a 2-2 draw at Old Cranleighan. After OCs Bendict Roe put his side in front with three minutes left Matt Guise-Brown earned Hampstead a point with a 70th minute corner, his second of the game. Richard Jackson scored both of second placed London Wayfarers goals in their 2-1 win at Chelmsford. Holcombe 2s stay third after a 5-2 win against Brighton & Hove who remain bottom. Sebastian Shaw hit a hat-trick in Spencer’s 4-2 win at Bromley & Beckenham. Southgate 2s rose from ninth to sixth thanks to a 3-0 win at Wimbledon 2s.
Ben White has made a habit of scoring late crucial goals for Leek and he did so again on Sunday, his 66th minute goal securing a 2-1 win at Nottingham University 2s to keep Leek four points clear at the top of Conference Midlands. Second placed Oxford Hawks beat Norwich City 3-1 and then there is five point gap to St Albans in third who won 3-1 at Barford Tigers. Birmingham University 2s stay bottom but a 3-1 win against City of Peterborough means they are now level on points with Barford. Both are a point behind Stourport after they drew 1-1 with Banbury.
