England Hockey joins Podium’s Clubs Programme, SportSmart, to support clubs with injury reporting
In 2022 England Hockey announced an exciting partnership with Podium Analytics – an NGO and charity who are committed to reducing injury in sport. The safety of all hockey players is incredibly important, and this partnership will help to address the issues of sports-related injury, with a special focus on young people. Injury reporting, whilst mandatory, should be an essential part of delivering hockey, which will be made much easier with the support of Podium Analytics.
As part of this partnership, we have joined Podium’s Clubs Programme, called SportSmart. This programme provides us with a new injury and insight platform as well as brilliant content and tools for clubs. The SportSmart platform is free for all of our clubs. You will have your own bespoke club profile where you can add coaches, volunteers, and players with access to the different tools as part of the programme.
Podium’s injury app and Clubs Programme will:
- Provide more oversight and insight to support clubs to better report on injuries that happen on the pitch, so we can deliver more in relation to safeguarding and player welfare.
- Give clubs access to a unique digital platform that will enable clubs to capture and analyse players’ activity and injury data during training and competition.
- Help us to better prevent and manage injury whilst also providing data on an anonymised basis to the Podium Institute to support ongoing research.
How to get involved
To get involved or to find out more, we have arranged a series of webinars over the coming months where you can find out more about Podium’s app, the wider programme and ask the team any questions. These webinars have been selected at different days and times to be as flexible as possible for you.

For clubs:
If you would like to take advantage of the SportSmart programme, all you need to do is create an account with Podium. Simply complete this form and the SportSmart team at Podium will be in touch to take you through the onboarding process. They will help you set up your club, onboard your players and staff, and can help with any questions you might have.
For players:
If you would like to use the platform but your club is not currently up and running, please speak to your club welfare officer. They can work with England Hockey and Podium to set your club up on the platform.
