The Super 6s indoor championships opening weekend did not disappoint, with 1,214 goals being scored across the 8 women’s and men’s divisions in 204 games.

In the Premier divisions, East Grinstead’s men and women made a perfect start to their campaigns both with 4 wins from 4, leaving them at the top of their tables.

The women’s premier has EG, Repton, Bowdon and Buckingham currently occupying the top 4 places that qualify for Finals Day.  Surbiton are two points off in 5th, followed by Slough with 6 points.  Sutton Coldfield, Leicester and Sevenoaks are yet to pick up some points and are in the final 3 places.

In this opening series of games, it was the free scoring of Repton and Bowdon Hightown that stood out with 25 and 23 goals apiece, and Bowdon’s Sally Walton currently on 12 goals followed by the German international Sonja Zimmermann with 7.  In the final game of the weekend Repton ran out 8-1 winners against Bowdon, to remain unbeaten but 2 points behind East Grinstead.

Looking ahead to next weekend six teams are still in the reckoning for the Finals places, and at the other end 3 teams will look to avoid relegation.

In the other divisions, Knole Park lead Division 1 by a point from Guildford, City of York top the Division 2 north table and Canterbury lead the south.
In the men’s Premier division at Whitgift school, the top four at the halfway point are: East Grinstead, Old Georgians, Wimbledon and Surbiton.

EG lead the table and the goal scoring with 30, followed by Old Georgians with a total of 28 who had a good debut weekend in the premier division.  Defending champions Wimbledon are well placed in third having won 3 out of 4 matches. Previous winners Surbiton sit in fourth and have picked up 2 wins and hard fought draw with Old Georgians.  At the other end of the table the University of Exeter are the only team yet to get a point despite a couple of closely fought games.

In the individual goal scoring stakes, there are 11 players on 5 goals or more after just four games.  At the top it’s a 3-way tie on 8 goals between Simon Claris from Repton, Robert Field from Holcombe and Wimbledon’s Ed Horler.

So still all to play at both ends of the table going into next weekend.

Elsewhere Brooklands Manchester University are unbeaten at the top of Division 1, Bowdon have 5 wins out of 5 to lead Div.2 north as do Southgate who lead the south.
