Surbiton and Reading storm to AthleteQ.APP Premier Division titles

Surbiton and Reading took the men's and women's AthleteQ.App EHL Premier Division title respectively in what was a weekend full of exciting action. 

Nottingham Hockey Centre played host to the top level of domestic hockey in a weekend that saw eight hockey matches. 

The first day of action saw Reading take the win against Hampstead and Westminster in a shootout after drawing 1-1 (0-2) while Surbiton fought hard to beat East Grinstead 3-2. In the men's matches, Old Georgians comfortably beat Oxted 4-0 and Surbiton dominated their semi-final to beat Wimbledon 6-2. 

The men's 3/4th playoff saw a 0-0 draw between Oxted and Wimbledon saw the only shootout of the day with Wimbedon coming out on top (3-2). It was East Grinstead that secured third place in the women's league after beating Hampstead and Westmninster 3-2. 

The final between Surbiton and Old Georgians was a close fought match with Surbiton taking the lead in the 14th minute as Jacob Payton hit the back of the net with a field goal. Old Georgians equalised as Tom Carson lobbed James Mazarelo but Struan Walker secured the win for Surbiton in the 42nd minute with another excellent field goal. 

Reading took on reigning champions Surbiton in the women's final and the first quarter saw end-to-end action. In the 25th minute, Emma Findlay secured the only goal of the final for Reading and showed the strength of their defence to secure their first win since 2013.
