Ball patrol are a group of dedicated young volunteers who ensure the very best of international games can be played seamlessly through their helping hand.

This year we had over 300 applicants from across the country who wanted to be part of the team to help deliver the Vitality Hockey Women’s World Cup. From this we had 150 go forward with training and assessment for just 36 spots!

The success applications are split evening between boys and girls and spans the ages of 15 to 19 years of age. We had a great response and enthusiasm from all the teenagers that came forward from start to finish, including those who weren’t picked for the event.

Here are some of the great responses from parents and teenagers ahead of the World Cup – a huge thank you to everyone involved who helped make this experience unforgettable for these young volunteers.

‘The boys are so pleased they have been selected and are really looking forward to the World Cup.’

‘Thank you so much for choosing me to Ball Patrol for Vitality Women's Wold cup.’

‘Wow – So excited! That’s great news, what an experience to look forward to after GCSEs.’

‘Thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to do this. It has been an amazing experience that I will never forget.’

‘Just a brief note to say that she was obviously a bit disappointed with not being selected but has really enjoyed the experience and it has definitely inspired her to commit to volunteering in the future. Hockey is her real passion and being able to help ball patrol at Birmingham will be something she will remember always.’
