England Under-16 girls secured the bronze medal at the Six Nations Tournament in Ireland, after beating Belgium 1-0 in their final match in Cork.

A close match provided good entertainment for the crowd, but it was England who took a narrow win following Georgia Brown’s 43rd minute field goal, which came after good build up play down the right and a cross from Katie Jones which was deflected home.

“We were in control of possession in the first two quarters and we had numerous scoring opportunities which were denied by Belgium,” said head coach John Bell.

“In the second half Belgium made us work hard to get circle entry, and they counter-attacked, bringing our keeper into play who made several good saves.”

For the final minute of the game Belgium took their keeper off the field and went to a kicking back, but England held firm and took a deserved win.
