England Masters Over 50s Men
Match 1 – Fri 27 July vs Wales
England Mens O50s continued their winning ways with a hard
fought scrappy win against Argentina at the Olympic Hockey Stadium. Rob Hill
who played in the 1992 Olympics at this venue opened up the scoring with a good
drag flick. England then created a number of chances but were unable to add to
the score due to strong defensive plays from the opposition and a bit of
inaccuracy with the final pass.
The game became a bit scrappy with Argentina looking for a
1 on 1 situation against our defensive by throwing large aerials to a lone
forward.
England settled the nerves with a second goal from Jeff
Longden.
It remained two nil going into half time. The team were
disappointed with themselves and collectively set about raising the standards
in the second half. Rob Hill added another from a short corner, Kevin Miller
got a another great deflection from a great Pendle cross. Pendle bagged one
himself and Jeff Longden converted a stroke after the keeper fouled a forward
bearing down on him. Miller than added the final goal for a 7-0 win which was
hard work
England saw out the last few minutes well as a couple of
injuries were picked up. With a rest day tomorrow we have time for them to be
treated ready for the pool decider with France on Monday. Both teams have
qualified for the quarter finals but both want to finish top to try and avoid
playing Australia
