College or University Clubs
Traditionally, hockey is played in clubs at Universities. These Clubs normally play 11-a-side matches against other local Universities, and may play in national, regional, county or local leagues. British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS) also run a range of hockey competitions for Universities – for more information see www.bucs.org.uk.
Students can usually find out about opportunities to join sports clubs when they begin their studies, or through the Athletic Unions.
Rush Hockey / Intramural Activity
Rush Hockey now gives students a new way to play hockey. It’s fast, friendly and seriously good fun. It’s 5-a-side and can be played indoors or outdoors. It’s easy to set up and with only a few simple rules Rush Hockey aims to get people playing quickly.
Rush is a suitable intramural activity for those who don’t want to or haven’t got the time to commit to a team. Rush Hockey can be played with mixed genders and abilities so is a great way for students to meet new people and provide a break from studies. Speak to your University to see if they are currently running Rush Hockey.

Club Community Links
As part of our Club Community links programme we are always keen to try and link local HE students to their nearest Hockey Club, to ensure sustainable and ongoing opportunities for players when they leave University. The find your nearest Hockey Club please go to www.hockeynation.info.
