NAGS Banner
National Age Group Squads (NAGS) represent England at U16 and U18 level. The NAGS environment provides players with their first taste of international training camps and tournaments. Involvement on the prograrmme will include exposure to a series of best v best training days, training camps and international competition. In addition, players will also have access to a series of regionally delivered training and competition dates via their allocated Performance Centres, both environments bringing together the most high potential talent from across the nation and regions respectively.

Through NAGS, players have access to experienced coaching and management teams including a squad physiotherapist. Players will receive education from practitioners working with the English Institute of Sport and our seniors’ squads, bringing a connected approach to the education of good nutritional habits and strength and conditioning advice appropriate for developing hockey players.

Management teams will deliver education to players around injury management and anti doping. Players will contribute to their own Individual Development Plan and training diaries, as well as access to a web portal where coaches will upload game footage supporting the tactical understanding and technical development of the individuals involved.

Regardless of age or stage England Hockey expects players to develop against the following Overarching Principles.

Under 18s

How do I get involved?

Players are invited to attend based on recommendations from Performance Centre coupled with coach observations at the Futures Cup.

Entry and Exit Points?

Following on from Futures Cup players will be notified of a decision to take them forward into a further training and development environment. The NAGS programme dovetails with Performance Centre activity to provide, frequent, high quality contact time up until the end of July. Through their Performance Centre activity, NAGS Coach nominations and performances at Futures Cup, these considerations will dictate whether players continue in the NAGS programme moving forwards.

Players who are no longer eligible for U18 NAGS may access the U21/Development Programme from either NAGS coach recommendations or National League Clubs nominations. National League Club nominations follow a process of communications from November through to the following February when players may be invited in for assessment.
