First Aid and Safeguarding Advice
It is not a requirement to complete a First Aid Qualification to gain certification for a hockey coaching qualification. However, we strongly recommend all coaches attend a certificated Emergency First Aid Course lasting a minimum of 3 hours and including CPR training. A refresher or recertification is required every 3 years.
To gain certification for a qualification all coaches must have accessed one of the following workshops. Certificates are valid for 3 years.
Please note: Completing the online England Hockey safeguarding course is not accepted for certification and therefore one of the following must also be completed.
- sportscoach UK - Safeguarding and Protecting Children in Sport (SPC 1 or 2)
- Football Association Safeguarding Children Workshop. Find a course here.
- Online sportscoach UK renewal, Safeguarding and Protecting Children in Sport - please note this option can only be accessed if you have completed the face-to-face workshop (SPC 1 or 2, or FA Workshop) in the last 3 years, you will be required to send in both certificates when requesting certification

We strongly recommend all coaches have their own appropriate insurance, this can be gained via the England Hockey Coaches Membership
