Summer Championships

summer champs

England Hockey's Summer Championships will return for a fresh feel of summer activity in 2019. A mixture of small sided and full pitch 11-a-side hockey will be on offer for a wide range of age groups and abilities. Keep fit and active and, maybe more importantly your 'hockey-eye' in over the warmer months, while the traditional season takes a break from competitive league hockey.

The Summer Championships have been designed to create a relaxed, fun and social environment in which to play your hockey during the warmer out of season months. A variety of different formats will be played over a number of age groups and with a wide range of ability levels. For more information about the different strands on offer in 2019, see below. If your query isn’t answered here, then please email competitions.info@englandhockey.co.uk with your questions.

The England Hockey Summer Championships has three strands of competition:

  • 11-a-side Masters Summer Championships (Men's Over 30s, 40s & 50s and Women's Over 30s & 40s)
  • 7-a-side Masters Summer Championships (Women's Over 50s)
  • Back To Hockey Summer 6s Festivals (6-a-side)

11-a-side Masters Summer Championships (Men's Over 30s, 40s & 50s and Women's Over 30s & 40s)

Similar to our winter offer, only played in the summer. This gives participants the opportunity to play competitive hockey against their peers without the challenges of two games in a weekend, or clashes with coaching the clubs’ junior sections.

A National knockout competition where all entries will go directly into Tier 1. Early round losers will have the opportunity to play in the Tier 2 (Plate) Championships. Draws will be regionalised up to and including the Quarter-finals, with the Final being held at a central venue. Rounds will be hosted at the home teams’ venue.

The competition will run from May through to July (provisional dates below) and entry will cost £30.00 per team. Entries open on Wednesday 20 February and close on Sunday 07 April. To enter, you must sign up via the Competition Management System (CMS), here. More information about how to enter via the CMS can be found on our website, here.

Provisional competition dates; 12 May, 02 June, 16 June, 30 June, 14 July & 28 July (National Finals)

More than one team per club can enter, and there is no restriction on player eligibility in terms of which club you play Saturday League Hockey for, and who you represent in the Summer Championships. The team can be made up of a variety of different club players but must be entered under one club name. To support this, we have also allowed up to 2 players, within 5 years below the age category, that have not represented England Masters, to compete per team.

7-a-side Masters Summer Championships (Women's Over 50s)

A variance of our winter offer, to allow Women’s Masters activity to take place in the summer, but with less pressure on securing enough players to fulfil all fixtures. A chance for players who have a lot of other commitments during the regular season to be able to play for their own benefit.

A festival like competition, with multiple games played on one day at a central venue. Four venues will operate Nationally with a geographic spread to help reduce travel times. Following the Area Qualifiers, the top teams will qualify to play in the National Finals, another festival day of hockey to determine the best Women’s Over 50s team in the country.

The Area Qualifiers will be take place on 09 June with the National Finals being staged on 07 July. Entry will cost £30.00 per team and will cover both the Area Qualifiers and National Finals should your team qualify. Entries open on Wednesday 20 February and close on Tuesday 30 April. To enter, you must sign up via the Competition Management System (CMS), here. More information about how to enter via the CMS can be found on our website, here.

We are looking to host one of the Area Qualifiers in each of the following regions; North, Midlands, South West and South East of England. Venues will be updated here once confirmed.
