The Tiered Championships give your team an opportunity to become a national champion, regardless of whether you represent your club’s 1st XI, 2nd XI, or even 8th XI. Three different Tiers help to level the playing field and ensure you come up against teams of a similar ability standard - entry is based on the league you play in.
In these knockout competitions, the further you progress, the wider the pool of possible opponents becomes. It’s a great opportunity to take on different teams from those you face in your weekly league matches. Everyone loves a cup run, and regardless of league form, it’s something different to look forward to!
Teams who lose their first match in Rounds 1 or 2 will also have an opportunity to participate in a parallel subsidiary competition, giving more teams a chance to progress through to a final.
The Centralised Calendar specifies Cup Weekends which should help avoid clashes with league activity - meaning you can focus on your cup run without juggling multiple fixtures. Where league fixtures have been scheduled, it is the Championships fixture that take priority.
How are Tiers Determined?
The Division in which a team plays their Adult League hockey determines which Tier they’re eligible to enter in the Championships. Each Division sits within a Grade, and each Grade aligns to a Tier as shown below. The infographic also shows the names of the main and subsidiary competitions within each tier.
