Blueharts HC Hitchin, Hertfordshire
SHARE

Blueharts Hockey Club is seeking an ambitious and committed Men's 2nd Team Coach to lead one of the club's key performance squads and play an important role within our men's performance programme.

About Blueharts HC

Blueharts is a thriving, ambitious club with:

  • 9 men's and 7 women's teams
  • A large and successful junior section
  • England Hockey Talent Certification
  • Strong links to the player development pathway, with several players involved in Talent Academy

Based in Hitchin, the club combines a welcoming community atmosphere with a genuine ambition to develop players and compete at the highest possible level.

The Opportunity

The Men's 2nd XI is a critical part of the club's performance pathway.

Competing at a high standard, the squad includes ambitious senior players, emerging young talent, and players aspiring to break into the Men's 1st XI. We want the team to operate with the same standards, behaviours, and performance focus as a first team environment.

The successful coach will play a key role in:

  • Creating a high-performance culture within the Men's 2nd team
  • Developing players capable of progressing into the Men's 1st team
  • Aligning the squad's style of play and tactical approach with the Men's 1st team programme
  • Contributing to the long-term success of the club's men's performance pathway

This role would suit a coach who enjoys balancing competitive success with player development and who sees performance as a club-wide responsibility rather than a single team's objective.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality, engaging weekly training sessions (Thursdays, 8–10pm)
  • Develop and implement a clear playing philosophy aligned with the Men's 1st team programme
  • Lead match-day coaching and squad management
  • Work closely with the Men's 1st team coach to support player progression and succession planning
  • Lead on team selection and contribute to wider squad discussions
  • Establish and maintain high standards of behaviour, preparation, and accountability
  • Support the development of players transitioning from junior and lower senior teams

About You

You will:

  • Be a qualified coach able to coach independently
  • Have a strong understanding of player development and performance hockey
  • Be able to create a positive, challenging, and ambitious environment
  • Be an excellent communicator who can build strong relationships with players and fellow coaches
  • Be committed to the wider success of Blueharts Hockey Club and willing to contribute beyond your own squad

What We're Looking For

Above all, we are seeking a coach who will embrace the club's philosophy and become an integral part of our coaching team.

This role is an opportunity to help shape the club's men's performance programme by developing players, supporting progression into the 1st team, and helping create a consistent identity across our performance squads.

Additional Opportunities

There are opportunities to become involved in:

  • Other senior team coaching roles including ladies 1st team
  • Junior performance and pathway coaching
