Overview
Purley Walcountians Hockey Club (PWHC) is seeking dynamic, personable, and experienced hockey coaches to lead our Men’s and/or Women’s 1st XI squads for the 2026–2027 season. We welcome applications for either role individually or for a combined dual‑squad role, with responsibilities and remuneration adjusted accordingly.
Candidates may express interest in the Men’s role, the Women’s role, or the combined dual‑squad role.

Purley Walcountians HC is a long‑established, community‑driven club with a strong identity and a genuine sense of belonging. We are one of the few clubs in the area with our own pitch and clubhouse, shared with cricket, rugby, and other sports — creating a vibrant, social, multi‑sport environment.
We run:
· 4 Men’s teams
· 3 Women’s teams
· A thriving Colts section
· 300+ members across the club
Our junior pathway is a core strength: many of our senior players came through Colts and now lead teams, coach, or volunteer — creating continuity, culture, and pride.
Senior Team Context
· Men’s 1st XI: London Division 1
· Women’s 1st XI: London Division 3
We are open to appointing one coach covering both squads or two coaches in separate roles, depending on candidate preference and experience.
Ideal Fit
We are looking for a coach who is confident leading a performance squad and who can work collaboratively with the Men’s and Women’s Club Captains to shape the season’s direction.
The successful candidate will:
· Lead matchday coaching and management for the 1st XI
· Work closely with the respective Club Captains on player recruitment, squad selection, and team development
· Bring energy, structure, and clarity to training environments
· Engage positively with players across the club, supporting a strong performance culture
· Contribute to the development of junior players transitioning into adult hockey
Training Responsibilities
Tuesday – Men’s 1st XI Training
19:30–22:00
Wednesday – Women’s 1st XI Training
19:30–21:00
Training is focused on the 1st XI squads only.
1st XI Matchday Leadership (Saturday / Sunday for Cup Fixtures)
· Lead pre‑match preparation, including tactical planning, team briefings, and player engagement
· Deliver high‑quality in‑game coaching, decision‑making, and bench management throughout fixtures
· Conduct post‑match reviews, providing constructive feedback and identifying key development areas for individuals and the team
· Where fixtures overlap, the Men’s 1st XI will take priority for coach attendance, with alternative arrangements for the Women’s 1st XI agreed in advance with the Club Captain
Key Responsibilities Throughout the Season
· Conduct detailed performance and video analysis of both team and opposition
· Design and implement tactical frameworks aligned with the club’s playing philosophy and competitive goals
· Identify, develop, and support player progression across the season
· Create a positive, challenging, and high‑performance environment that enables players and teams to reach their potential
Additional Opportunities
· Paid coaching within our Colts programme (optional and based on availability)
· Opportunities to run hockey camps at PWHC
· Access to wider coaching opportunities through our network of partner clubs
Pay & Benefits
· Seasonal fixed fee: £8,000–£12,000, depending on whether the coach leads one squad or both, and based on experience
· Return flight to the UK (for overseas coaches)
· Free club membership (worth £170) for player/coaches
· Free match fees (worth £10 per match) for player/coaches

Start: August 2026
End: Mid‑April 2027 (or end of season)
