Womens 1st Team Coach

West Herts Hockey Club are extremely proud of our heritage promoting and offering competitive Hockey in Watford for over 100 years.

We currently field 6 Men’s sides and 4 Women’s and a thriving Juniors section (U8’s – U18’s).

We are seeking a committed and driven coach, with a long-term plan of success, to take our ladies team back to the National League competition. Our Women’s 1’s (and 2s) are a mix of experienced and younger players so the coach we seek will need to adaptable, organised and have the ability to coach and develop tactics and skills to a broad range of players. We want somebody who’s social, involved in all aspects of the club and committed to the teams short and long-term successes.

Responsibilities include leading first team training, squad selection and managing the team on match days. You will be working closely with the Club President, Ladies’ Club Captain, 1st Team Captain, and 2nd Team Leadership to help improve our ladies’ performance squads and assist with the development of our young players through promotion via our development pathway.

Key requirements:

- Plan and implement a pre-season training programme which would include goal setting, training sessions and friendlies (our fixtures sec will assist here).

- Run engaging and appropriately challenging training sessions with the aim to develop and strengthen the squad.

- Have an ability to communicate effectively with all members of the club.

- Coordinate with other coaches and captains to select the squads with both team performance and individual development in mind.

- Work with coaches and club leadership to ensure development throughout the club and to attract new players.

- Monitor performance, commitment and provide feedback on a team and individual level.

- Have tactical awareness and ability to adapt training or tactics to the team available.

- Be open to feedback from the players and support from the club. 

- Travel with the Ladies’ 1s on Saturdays, select the starting XI, manage gameplay and adapt tactics to achieve positive results.

- Use of club VEO footage to analyse and feedback to players. Hockey is supposed to be FUN- we need you to be a social and enthusiastic leader and most of all a valued member of our great club.
